Bachelor of Theology

The Bachelor of Theology is designed as a three-year full-time College-level program of study, which can also be taken part-time.

The BTh program applies the foundations of the CertTh year in a spiral of ever-deepening biblical, historical, theological, social, and personal reflection, through which Christians become thoroughly equipped at integrated interpretation of life and ministry for faithful service.

The creative shape of the ABTS BTh program has been internationally recognized as a leader in integrative leadership formation. The BTh is ideally suited for men and women who want solid academic training in theological studies, extensive skill development for specific ministries, and mentoring and training in personal character development and growth.

Beyond the material covered in the foundational CertTh program, in the course of the BTh program the individual learns:

·         How to integrate biblical, historical, theological, social, and personal considerations for effective Christian ministry. In particular the student will examine:

o   The nature and character of God, as seen in the biblical text and taught by the great thinkers of church history, and our calling to reflect his character individually and corporately, addressing false perspectives evident in church and society.

o   The Kingdom of God, Jesus’ central teaching message and a formative theme in the church over the past 2000 years. The individual also is challenged with the implications of Kingdom imperatives for faithful Christian living.

o   The church as a reconciled and reconciling community, rooted in the biblical teaching of the divine Trinity and the people of God as his agents for transformation, and expressed in peacemaking within the Christian community and by the Christian community in society.

o   The church as a missional community, rooted in the biblical teaching of God’s great missional work, and expressed in an outward vision whenever the church has been faithful to the biblical vision.

o   The imperative of lifelong discipleship, as modeled in Jesus and the apostles, and nurtured through the skills and disciplines of the spiritual life that the church has embraced throughout history and which continue to be formative in the life of the believer today.

o   The imperative of empowering leadership, seen most vividly in the radical leadership model of Jesus and the apostles, and evident in the great Christian leaders of history. The need for overcoming negative cultural patterns and lifelong growth in leadership are also examined.

·         Advanced skills in interpreting all of life and ministry in light of biblical and theological lenses.

·         How to self-assess and plan lifelong learning throughout his or her years of leadership in ministry.
